Valley View Residents Move Into Two New Prince Albert Group Homes

Six former residents of Valley View Centre have a new place to call home, thanks to the opening of two new group homes in Prince Albert.

Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Nadine Wilson on behalf of Social Services Minister Paul Merriman, joined community members, dignitaries and group home residents to celebrate the grand opening.

The Ministry of Social Services provides $832,988 in annual funding for the two homes, which are operated by the Prince Albert Group Homes Society.  In total, the ministry provides more than $4.4 million in annual funding to Prince Albert Group Homes Society to operate 12 residential group homes, as well as semi-independent living and day program options.

“We are pleased to work with Prince Albert Group Homes Society to support people with disabilities in this community,” Wilson said.  “Most importantly, six people will be able to live safely and comfortably with the supports they need to succeed.  I’d like to thank Prince Albert Group Homes Society for the great work they do to make life better for people in Prince Albert.”

“The Prince Albert Group Homes Society is honoured to participate in this important endeavour and we applaud the work of the ministry on behalf of all those involved in the Valley View Transition Initiative,” Prince Albert Group Homes Society Executive Director Jeff Gendron said.  “We would also like to acknowledge the excellent support we have received from Community Living Services Division and Valley View staff during this process.”

This new group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy by creating residential services for people with disabilities.  Saskatchewan residents and communities that have done work that aligns with the Disability Strategy are encouraged to share their accomplishments using the hashtag #SKDisability.
