Update On Teacher Bargaining

The Government Trustee Bargaining Committee (GTBC) continues to meet in good faith with the Teacher Bargaining Committee (TBC).  Today’s meeting with the TBC is the 10th meeting of the parties as they negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The main items that the Saskatchewan Teacher’s Federation (STF) identified has been addressed either through the GTBC offer or through the Ministry of Education:

Class size and composition:

The Minister has created a committee to provide a path forward in time for the 2020-21 school year.

The STF has indicated it will not participate.

Year 1 - 2019

·         $1,500 one-time payment per teacher (using repurposed extended health plan contributions to reduce the plan’s $80 million surplus)

Year 2 – 2020

·         two per cent salary increase

Year 3 – 2021

·         two per cent salary increase

The TBC has declined the GTBC offer to provide a $1,500 one-time payment to teachers, and two per cent salary increases in years 2 and 3.

These increases would have teachers earning three per cent more than the western Canadian average for teachers.

“This offer is fair and it provides stability for the teaching profession in this province for years to come,” Education Minister Gordon Wyant said.

The GTBC looks forward to continuing to work together with the TBC to reach a deal as soon as possible for Saskatchewan’s teachers.
