Saskatoon-Based Strategic Prairie Region Alliance Selected As Saskatoon Remand Centre Design Team

Saskatoon-based Strategic Prairie Region Alliance (SPRA) has been chosen as the design team for the Saskatoon Remand Centre expansion project.

SPRA was chosen after successfully completing a rigorous and transparent vendor competition.  SPRA's team includes aodbt Architecture, P3Architecture, and START Architecture.  Their work is expected to cost $5.8 million and will include architectural design and engineering services for the project.

“The remand centre project will modernize our facilities and provide a safe environment for staff, inmates and the public,” Corrections, Policing and Public Safety Minister Christine Tell said.   “We are pleased to be working with Strategic Prairie Region Alliance on this facility.”

The project will create approximately 600 construction jobs during the life of the project and result in 130 permanent positions at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.

“SPRA looks forward to helping government design a remand facility that will provide a respectful environment, promote wellness and ensure the safety of inmates, staff and the public,” SPRA Project Director Pat Kelly said.  “SPRA is a 20-year joint venture of aodbt Architecture, P3Architecture and START Architecture.”

When complete, the new remand centre will add space for approximately 400 remand inmates to the Saskatoon Correctional Centre.  This will provide significant additional flexibility to manage the inmate population in Saskatchewan's correctional system and improve corrections' ability to provide rehabilitative programming.

The entire project will cost approximately $120 million, and is part of government's $7.5 billion, two-year capital plan to build a strong Saskatchewan and stimulate economic recovery.

The project is scheduled for completion by spring 2024.
