Recognizing Saskatchewan's Top Cadets
Saskatchewan’s top Sea Cadet Corps, Army Cadet Corps and Air Cadet Squadron are being showcased in a series of events over the coming weeks. Saskatchewan’s Provincial Military Liaison, MLA Greg Lawrence, will present Premier’s Commendation of Achievement certificates and pins to the cadets at ceremonies across southern and central Saskatchewan. The top units are chosen by their work on special projects evaluated by Zone Training Officers.
“The cadet program is a wonderful opportunity for youth in Saskatchewan,” Lawrence said. “Young people in the province can take part in a variety of environmental, citizenship and community activities through the cadet program, helping them to learn life and work skills that will serve them well in the future. Development in areas such as physical fitness and effective teamwork through this program are particularly important in securing future success.”
This is the tenth year the award ceremonies have taken place.
The top cadet units for 2019 are:
- Top Sea Cadet Corps (November 27) – 346 ‘Saskatchewan’, Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, Fort Qu’Appelle
- Top Air Cadet Squadron (December 11) – 606 ‘Preeceville Harvard’, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, Preeceville
- Top Army Cadet Corps (December 12) – 2517 ‘Melville Legion’, Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, Melville
The national cadet program is for youth aged 12 to 18.
The program offers a variety of activities for youth focusing on leadership, citizenship and fitness while learning about the sea, army and air elements of the Canadian Armed Forces. There are more than 1,500 youth enrolled in Saskatchewan’s sea, army and air corps and squadrons.
