Outstanding Achievements Recognized At Annual Apprenticeship Awards
The Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) will celebrate significant contributions to the province’s apprenticeship and trade certification system tonight during the 19th annual Apprenticeship Awards held at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina.
Thirty-two certified tradespeople will walk across the stage to accept their Outstanding New Journeyperson awards. These awards are given to the apprentices who achieved the highest marks on the journeyperson certification exams from July 1, 2018 until June 30, 2019.
Other apprenticeship stakeholders – including technical training providers, instructors and employers – will be recognized as well. The event also serves as a platform for industry partners to present their own scholarships and awards.
“On behalf of the provincial government, I congratulate the journeypersons and all those being recognized for their achievements,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said. “These award winners exemplify our strong, skilled workforce and world-class training institutions that will ensure we continue to meet the demands of a growing economy.”
Nearly 400 people are expected to attend and more than 25 organizations are sponsoring the event.
“The annual Apprenticeship Awards is a favourite event of mine,” SATCC Board Chair Drew Tiefenbach said. “We get to recognize the outstanding achievements of the winners, along with their friends, family and mentors. Winners, you perform valuable work that benefits the people of our great province. You build, cook, serve, repair and even coach the next generation of apprentices. You do all of this with enthusiasm and exceptional care. Tonight’s our chance to say thank you.”
Cocktails and appetizers will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by supper at 6:30 p.m. Award presentations begin at 7:45 p.m.
