Newly Renovated Day Program Opens in Melfort
Today, Melfort MLA Todd Goudy on behalf of Social Services Minister Paul Merriman, joined community members, dignitaries and day program attendees in Melfort to celebrate the grand opening of a renovated day program building for people with intellectual disabilities.
The Government of Saskatchewan provided $338,000 to Plus Industries for the renovation. The bathrooms were made wheelchair accessible, and the heating system and insulation were updated.
“The renovations will ensure that people at the day program continue to be supported in a safe and comfortable environment,” Goudy said. “The investment will allow Plus Industries to continue to provide valuable and quality programming for people in Melfort.”
“The project planning has been extensive and it is gratifying to be rewarded with such a wonderful facility,” Plus Industries Executive Director Lanny Baerwald said.
Since 1981, Plus Industries has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities. They currently operate a group home, a day program and a supportive living program. The Ministry of Social Services provides more than $1.6 million in annual funding to Plus Industries.
