New Saskatoon Group Home Opens
This newly purchased home will provide care to four people. Elmwood Residences currently operates 12 group homes, one 40-space manor, one supported independent living program and a day program.
“Today is an exciting day for our community, our province, and especially the four people who now call this place home,” Olauson said. “Our government’s partnership with Elmwood Residences and our ongoing commitments to this organization as we work together to achieve the goals of the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy. Community-based organizations, like Elmwood, play a valuable role in supporting people with disabilities.”
“Today is a day of celebration, as we mark the grand opening of our new group home with our residents, families, staff and Elmwood,” Elmwood Residences Inc. Executive Director Colleen Stenhouse said. “We are celebrating our continued partnership with the Ministry of Social Services. We look to the future with a vision for positive progress and growth.”
The new group home supports the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy which was released in June 2015. It focuses on six priority areas including: transportation, respite, accessibility legislation, residential services, service co-ordination and navigation, and awareness/understanding of the rights of people experiencing disabilities.
