Government Trustee Bargaining Committee Releases Update On Teacher Bargaining

The Teacher’s Bargaining Committee has tabled class size and composition as a main issue in bargaining.  Education Minister Gordon Wyant confirmed that an important and complex matter such as this needs to involve discussion with teachers and all education partners including local school boards, senior administrators, Saskatchewan Association of School Business Officials (SASBO), the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) and the Minister of Education.  Wyant has committed to working to bring this provincial team together with meetings to be planned as soon as possible.

The Government Trustee Bargaining Committee (GTBC) has offered a three-year deal including:

Year 1 – 2019

  • $1,500 one-time payment per teacher (using repurposed extended health plan contributions to reduce the plan’s $80 million surplus)

Year 2 – 2020

  • two per cent salary increase

Year 3 – 2021

  • two per cent salary increase

“Our committee believes that the one-time payment and the year two and three salary increases honour the hard work of teachers in our province,” Government Trustee Bargaining Committee Chair Don Hoium said.  “With an offer to discuss classroom concerns with teachers in addition to a competitive monetary offer, we feel that teacher voices have been heard and a fair offer has been extended.”

The GTBC looks forward to continue working together with the STF to reach a deal as soon as possible for teachers.
