$770,000 for Policing Initiatives in Meadow Lake
The Government of Saskatchewan is helping to keep Meadow Lake safe with funding through the Municipal Police Grants.
This grant of $770,000 will fund seven existing Meadow Lake RCMP positions in 2019-20.
“This funding reinforces our government’s priority to ensuring residents are safe and the RCMP is supported in the work it does every day in protecting citizens in Meadow Lake,” Trade and Export Development Minister and Meadow Lake MLA Jeremy Harrison said on behalf of Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell.
The Municipal Police Grant supports enhanced community policing throughout the city in the areas of chronic offenders, youth education programs, illegal drug activity, and traffic safety.
“We gratefully acknowledge the recent announcement of the funding for the Municipal Police Grant for our community,” Meadow Lake Acting Mayor Merlin Seymour said. “We feel that safety within our community is very important, and this funding allows us to be able to staff our busy local detachment with members that are needed. We look forward to working together with our detachment to make Meadow Lake and area a safer place to live!”
The Ministry of Corrections and Policing provides funds to urban police services across Saskatchewan to support 128 municipal police positions and policing initiatives.
