| SUPPORT HIGH FOR NUCLEAR DEVELOPMENT
Majority support a refinery or reactor
May 15, 2008
Your Saskatchewan Party government is on the right track when it comes to nuclear development that will undo decades of damage under the NDP.
A new poll shows people are no longer buying into the decades of NDP fear-mongering, and are in favour of having either a refinery or reactor built in Saskatchewan.
A week ago today, we revealed talks were underway with Ontario-based Bruce Power about building a reactor in Saskatchewan.
The poll shows 59 per cent of respondents were in favour of building a facility to refine uranium. Support was also strong for building a reactor here.
Currently Saskatchewan produces 23 per cent of the world's uranium, but ships 100 per cent of it out of the province for processing. Having more of the nuclear cycle located here means hundreds of millions of dollars for the provincial economy, and hundreds of highly-skilled, highly-paid jobs for Saskatchewan people.
Before anything is built there would be widespread public consultation and in-depth environmental assessments. Our government would do nothing that would put the safety of Saskatchewan citizens at risk. Safety is our number one concern. |
