Kevin Phillips

Melfort

Kevin lived in the Melfort constituency for nearly 40 years where he worked in business and advertising and was a partner with the Melfort Journal.

Kevin served his community as a past president of the Kinsmen Club and as a board member and chairman of the then Melfort School Division.  He also sat on the board of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association.

Prior to becoming an MLA, Kevin served as Mayor of Melfort.

First elected to serve in the Legislature in 2011, Kevin was re-elected in 2016.

Kevin held various important positions in the Assembly, most recently serving on the Government’s House leadership team as Deputy Whip.

On November 13, 2017, Kevin passed away. He was 63.

Kevin was a great champion for the important cause of addressing domestic violence in Saskatchewan.

Every year, Kevin strutted in red high heels, supporting the "Walk a mile in her shoes" campaign to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence.

He was instrumental in working with local groups and community organizations to get a domestic violence shelter built in Melfort; the first one built in Saskatchewan since 1989.

With Kevin's sudden passing, Saskatchewan has lost an important advocate, a man of character and a valued family member.
